Guru Shobitha Arun, hails from a traditional bharatanatyam dance family of late padmashri Adyar k. Lakshman. She embarked her bharatanatyam dance from the age of 3 under the expert guidance of her mother, smt. Nirmala sainath who is a sister-in-law of Adyar k.Lakshman and former principal of esteemed kalpakkam bharathanatyam dance school. Besides her mother's invaluable mentorship, she was fortunate to enhance her bharatanatyam journey through esteemed dance gurus in her family from uncle, shri k. Ramarao, and aunty smt. Nagamani srinivasa rao, who played significant roles in shaping her artistic journey and imparting their profound knowledge and wisdom. Additionally, her uncle, shri k. Gopinath, an acclaimed mridangam player, has been instrumental in refining her nattuvangam skills.
Her family background, guidance and learning have been instrumental in deepening Shobitha to a professional Bharathanatyam dancer. However, Shobitha’s perseverance and passion towards continued learning of Bhrathanatyam still persists and presently she is honing her skills to reach pinnacle of her Bharatanatyam carrier from the expertise of Guru Shri. Mrugesh Subbiah. At the age of 7, Shobitha also had the opportunity to explore world of acting through her father who lead a drama production unit named Arudhra Saai which was later embraced as her dance school name. Through her father’s drama productions, She gained valuable insights into screenplay, acting, and stage management experiences which she started incorporating into her dance productions, creating performances that are captivating and multidimensional. She also had the privilege of showcasing these skills at a very young age in renowned Sabhas, local temples, and esteemed venues such as the grand Brahmotsavam festival in Tirupati. Guided by her parents’ wisdom, She developed a deep appreciation for diverse dance forms, it instilled in her the belief that a dancer should be versatile and adaptable. Inspired by this philosophy, She ventured beyond Bharatanatyam, exploring and experimenting with various dance styles. This exploration has enriched her artistic horizons and fueled creativity.
In conclusion, Shobitha believes her artistic journey has been shaped by exceptional mentorship of her mother, the legacy of her esteemed family members, and the support of her father. “All their blessings, guidance and encouragement have nurtured my passion for dance and paved the way for me to explore and embrace diverse artistic expressions”.
